Envisioning Uusimaa – Virtual Exhibition Opening
Join us for the opening of the Envisioning Uusimaa virtual exhibition, where the winner of the Vision Competition will also be announced!
The Envisioning Uusimaa project invited artists and creative professionals to imagine possible futures for the Helsinki-Uusimaa region through three themes drawn from the regional programme: Innovative Uusimaa, Happy Uusimaa and Environmentally Smart Uusimaa.
Participants developed their ideas in virtual workshops and with the AI Vision Lab toolbox, using artificial intelligence and other digital methods in their artistic and research work. The competition invited a range of formats, from finished artworks to concepts, plans and documented research processes.
What kinds of visions emerged?
The finished works explore possible futures for Uusimaa from different perspectives across all three themes.
Recurring topics include the relationship between people and technology, social interaction and participation, future urban environments and services, wellbeing, ecological networks, and the connection between the built environment and nature.
The works also vary widely in form and method. The exhibition includes video and image-based works, interactive and web-based projects, speculative concepts, and works that draw on open and geospatial data. AI has been used at different stages: in research and ideation, visual and audiovisual production, programming, and the exploration of alternative futures.
Vision Competition Winner
The entries were assessed on three criteria: artistic execution, depth of engagement with the theme, and ability to spark discussion.
The winner of the Envisioning Uusimaa Vision Competition will be announced at the exhibition opening and will receive the €2,000 main prize.
